Scheduling multimodal alternative services for managing infrastructure maintenance possessions in railway networks

چکیده

Highly utilized railway networks require regular infrastructure maintenance. Different track sections often need to be closed for entire days carry out engineering works, which makes the timetables no longer feasible and thus adjusted services temporary alternative planned. We introduce Multimodal Alternative Services Possessions (MASP) problem support planning of services, from passenger transport operator points view, including an train timetable, bus-bridging extra services. The MASP is formulated based on Service Network Design Problem Vehicle Routing Problem. To solve it efficiently, we develop a solution framework that incorporates heuristics column row generation with mixed-integer linear programming. developed provides optimized service routes, schedules flows routing. demonstrated performance real-life Dutch network. results show capable efficiently generating route affected by possessions very limited increase in total costs compared scenario link closures. High computational efficiency observed even highly disrupted networks.

Cost-Effectiveness of Railway Infrastructure Renewal Maintenance

U.S. Class I railways maintain their infrastructure through a mix of ordinary maintenance and periodic renewal of infrastructure components. Different railways use different proportions of ordinary maintenance and periodic renewal with little consensus as to the best combination. Furthermore, the cost-effectiveness of emphasizing one method over the other has not been analyzed using empirical d...

Genetic and memetic algorithms for scheduling railway maintenance activities

Nowadays railway companies are confronted with high infrastructure maintenance costs. Therefore good strategies are needed to carry out these maintenance activities in a most cost effective way. In this paper we solve the preventive maintenance scheduling problem (PMSP) using genetic algorithms, memetic algorithms and a two-phase heuristic based on opportunities. The aim of the PMSP is to sched...

Life cycle cost analysis for managing rail infrastructure Concept of a decision support system for railway design and maintenance

In the last decade managing railway infrastructure in Europe has changed compared to the century preceding it. Due to the restructuring of railways, which has resulted in separate Infrastructure Management and increasing performance demands from governments and Transport Operating Companies, infrastructure performance has become an important issue. Reliability requirements, budget limits, and o...

Design of a new railway scheduling model for dense services

We address the problem of generating a global detailed conflict-free railway schedule for a given set of train lines and frequencies and we propose a decomposition of the railway network into condensation and compensation zones in order to solve the train scheduling problem. Condensation zones lie in the proximity of main stations, where available capacity is limited and trains are therefore re...

Scheduling Maintenance Jobs in Networks

We investigate the problem of scheduling the maintenance of edges in a network, motivated by the goal of minimizing outages in transportation or telecommunication networks. We focus on maintaining connectivity between two nodes over time; for the special case of path networks, this is related to the problem of minimizing the busy time of machines. We show that the problem can be solved in polyn...
